Chesterfield cigarettes from the time of their appearance to this day are very popular. But what is their secret? Why do many smokers prefer this brand? “Chesterfield is a pleasure” – this is how one of the very first advertising slogans of the famous brand sounded. Production of products of this brand began by the Drummond Tobacco Company in 1873. But in those days, chewing tobacco was very popular, so Chesterfield cigarettes did not have large sales.
Drummond Tobacco Company collapsed after a while, and the Chesterfield brand received a new owner – the company Liggett & Myers. This led to great changes that affected not only the appearance of the packaging of products, but also their content.
The company often faced black PR created by its competitors. There were no rumors about her. Some claimed that the cigarettes produced by Liggett & Myers were made by sick people; others claimed that the company supported Adolf Hitler. But even with such rumors, the Chesterfield brand was gaining more and more popularity.
The price of Chesterfield cigarettes made them affordable for any consumer. For this reason, from the time of the brand’s inception until the beginning of 1925, the main buyers were the working class. The first type of cigarettes of this brand was Chesterfield Red. Each package contained 200 cigarettes with a length of 80 mm.
The manufacturer of the company eventually decided to switch to a machine version of the assembly of products, which marketers feared. But sales statistics showed that the buyer was satisfied with the quality of the goods. Since that time, Chesterfield cigarettes have been machine-made.
In order to increase consumer demand, another type of cigarette was created to meet the wishes of those who like lighter tobacco products, so Chesterfield cigarettes called Chesterfield Blue appeared. Blue is different in that it contains 8 mg of tar and 0.6 mg of nicotine. The length of cigarettes remained unchanged.
