The company that produces Benson & Hedges cigarettes was the main sponsor of the Jordan Grand Prix team. When racing in countries with tobacco ad bans (such as the UK, France and later Germany, Belgium, Canada, the US, Italy, Turkey), the team used alternatives such as “& Hisses”, ”Buzzin ‘Hornets”, “Heroes” and “Be on Edge” to stun the bans on advertising tsett ads.
Australian Touring Motor Racing Championship. In the 1980s and early 1990s, the manufacturer of Benson & Hedges cigarettes sponsored the Benson & Hedges team in the Australian Touring Car races. All sponsorship operations ceased when the federal government banned tobacco advertising at sporting events in 1996.
Ice skating. In the late 1980s, the manufacturer of Benson & Hedges cigarettes sponsored the ice show “Benson & Hedges on Ice.” Debi Thomas made her professional debut with the show. During the 1980s, the manufacturer of Benson & Hedges cigarettes was a major sponsor of international events, with naming rights to most one-day international tournaments, including the World Series Cup and the World Championships.
Other. The manufacturer of Benson & Hedges cigarettes was a big sponsor of iD Dunedian Fashion Week in New Zealand from the 1940s until 1995, when tobacco sponsorship was completely banned. In 1990, the Law on the Smoking-Free Environment had already been adopted, which smoked in offices, public spaces, public places and transport; banned advertising of Tobacco products, sponsorship of Tobacco products and advertising on other products; and established a health sponsorship board.
Prior to that, however, the manufacturer of Benson & Hedges cigarettes sponsored Fashion Week by awarding their tickets in a gold Cyette box of packaging, encouraging women to smoke their brand on the runway, and allowing women to choose a variety of novelty items and Cyette accessories.
Benson & Hedges sponsored fire competitions in Montreal, Quebec, Ontario and Vancouver, UK, until the Tobacco Advertising Laws passed by the Government of Canada came into force in 2000.
